DIYAR AL MUHARRAQ Highlights its Expertise in Environmental Monitoring and Management 6 July 2009

The system, the first in the GCC, uses monitoring stations located in strategic locations around the project area to provide a constant data stream which are assessed in real-time against a pre-determined set of parameters.

Bahrain, 6th July 2009: Diyar Al Muharraq, one of the largest mixed-use developments in Bahrain, will conduct a scientific presentation at the Bahrain Society of Engineers (BSE) entitled “Environmental Monitoring and Management iniatives”.

The presentation, to be held today(7th July) at 7:00 pm, will be done by Ms. Justine Carr, Principal Environmental Scientist at Scott Wilson’s Bahrain office, one of the lead engineering consultancies working on Diyar Al Muharraq and one of the most prominent international firms in sustainable planning. Ms. Carr will draw upon her expertise in environment and health and safety, possessing 17 years of experience working in a wide variety of projects across the GCC.

The presentation will detail the necessary stages to put together a comprehensive cutting-edge environmental plan in urban developments, especially with regards to large-scale projects. The stages include: baseline environmental studies, environmental management plan, monitoring water quality, ecological monitoring, coastline monitoring, and environmental compensation plan. Ms.Carr will be using Diyar Al Muharraq as a real-life example to demonstrate each of these stages.

Commenting on the presentation, Diyar Al Muharraq CEO Mr. Aaref Hejres said that the project is a rich story that deserves to be told to benefit industry specialists and other interested parties because it involves the best international consultancies and local expertise.

In addition, the presentation will showcase DIANA, an advanced water quality monitoring system designed by Scott Wilson specifically for Diyar Al Muharraq due to the complex nature of the project’s dredging and reclamation works.

The system, the first in the GCC, uses monitoring stations located in strategic locations around the project area to provide a constant data stream which are assessed in real-time against a pre-determined set of parameters. If any parameters are compromised, the system alerts its operators to undertake the necessary counter measures.

Diyar Al Muharraq considers environmental preservation an integral component of the project’s vision and has allocated over BD 3 million for its environmental program. The company has launched a number of educational activities and programs targeting schools and universities, governmental bodies, and other developers to spread awareness to everyone.
